Effetto Mariposa Caffelatex Sealant - 1000ml
  • £28.00

Caffélatex is a truly innovative tyre sealant, successfully used on and off (MTB, cyclocross) road, for tubeless, tubular and inner-tube applications.CharacteristicsImproved formula (since January 2012):Thanks to the addition of microscopic silicate particles, Caffélatex now moves more slowly through holes, allowing the sealing ingredient more time to heal the puncture. These particles are NOT of macroscopic size (e.g., glitter 150-300 microns) but are instead microscopic particles less than 2 microns in diameter. Thus, Caffélatex flow characteristics change on a microscopic level without the headaches of valve-clogging glitter. Puncture repair speed is up to 5 times faster, an improvement especially noticeable with lightweight or thin-casing tiresFoaming action activated by wheel movement:The first advantage of Caffélatex over classic latex-based sealants comes from a foaming agent (Actifoam™), activated by wheel movement. Centrifugal force drives standard latex-based sealants against the outer circumference of the tyre. Caffélatex foaming action causes it to fill the tyre’s entire internal cavity , making it much more effective against sidewall punctures.Puncture-repairing action:Its fast sealing action makes Caffélatex ideal for MTB and road tubeless, tubular and standard tyres. Caffélatex repairs punctures up to 5 mm (mtb) and 3 mm (road).Stable over time:Thanks to its formula, Caffélatex is a very stable and durable sealant, but we know this is highly dependable on kind of application and external conditions.Using the recommended quantities for tyre size, the expected sealant lifespan is:Tubular (or Caffélatex inserted into latex/butyl inner tube): 1-2 years,UST Tubeless tyre: 4-6 months,Tubeless-ready tyre: 2-4 months,Tube-type tyre: 2-3 months,Nevertheless, in the impossibility of knowing our customers’ specific application (kind of wheel/tyre set-up, tyre sidewall thickness and porosities, external temperature and humidity, bicycle storage conditions…), we recommend checking Caffélatex every 2 months, to make sure it’s liquid and therefore retains its ‘puncture preventive’ action.,When dry, Caffélatex-sealed wheels are still air-tight, but Caffélatex won’t actively repair punctures..Not corrosive:being completely ammonia-free, its 100% tyre and rim friendly. It’s also a favourite sealant for cyclocross/tubular applications, creating no harm to the sensitive latex inner tubes.Usage and storage temperatures:From very cold to very hot, exceeding by far those of first-generation latex sealants (usage: -20/+50°C ~ storage: -15/ +30°C).Recommended quantities:30 to 50 ml per wheel for road/cyclocross applications; 50 ml for mtb tyres up to 26×2.10/29×2.00; 60 to 100 ml for mtb tyres over 26×2.10/29×2.00.Sizes:60ml pouch, 250ml or 1000ml bottles or 10 litre workshop tub

Effetto Mariposa Carogna Roll
  • £18.00

Carogna double sided adhesive tape for tubulars bridges the gap between previously existing tapes and mastic in terms of gluing performance and heat-resistance.Key Features:Extremely easy to use compared to mastic,Very reliable adhesion, in any condition,Once removed, Carogna leaves the rim ready for the next gluing, without additional cleaning,Works for road and cyclocross,Also available in very convenient Shop rolls. Why we created it:We started developing Carogna (pronounced “car-own-ya”) double sided adhesive tubular tape with a clear and ambitious goal: to bridge the gap between previously existing tapes and mastic in terms of gluing performance and heat-resistance, while retaining all the advantages of tapes. In addition to this, we gave specific additional consideration to cyclocross (read the specific how-to guide here!) and mountain-bike tubulars, where specific features are needed from the gluing standpoint.Universal performance:Carogna has been tested and is designed to perform flawlessly on any rim material (aluminum, carbon), with any tubular (seamless, handmade, vulcanized sew-ups…), on and off-road.The tape has two application-specific sides:Semi-structural and removable on the rim-side: adhesion is guaranteed by industrial-grade acrylic glue, native to the base tape; this means that when removing the tubular (breaking its bond with the rim), the acrylic glue will stay on the tape, not on the rim. Acrylic has a good adhesion on both aluminum and carbon without any specific surface preparation.Permanent on the tubular side: there’s a 1 mm-thick layer of a recently-developed permanent glue for underwater applications. This thick glue film will move and spread when the tubular is first inflated, ensuring optimized contact with any tubular base tape geometry. Humidity is obviously not an issue, and this glue adheres well to any kind of base tape material (nylon, cotton, poly-cotton) or external finishing (raw, brushed, or coated by neoprene).Wide temperature range in use:Once adhesion is set, the use at low temperatures (down to -40°C) is not a problem. Thermal resistance of all materials used in the manufacture of Carogna was a high priority: Carogna will provide a perfect bonding at 150°C for extended periods (hours), exceeding the heat-resistance of even the best mastics and widely exceeding the heat-resistance of any other tubular tape.Optimized adhesive surface:Adhesion is very strong and uniform across the whole circumference of the rim for all tubulars and it is also uniform across the tubular base tape. One short-coming of tubular tape to-date has been limited adhesion at the edges of the base tape or in the center of tubulars with a raised center seam. Carogna solves these problems.Temperature range when mounting :The ideal thermal range for application of Carogna is between 21°C and 38°C (70 to 100°F), allowing 8 hours to reach 80% of the adhesive strength . Applying the tape below 10°C is not recommended. We recommend cleaning surfaces (rim and tubular base tape) using iso-propylic alcool or mineral spirits.

Effetto Mariposa Tappabuco Spare Plugs
  • £11.00

While the bigger, more common 3.5mm Plug is great for bigger punctures on mtb tyres, several times a 1.5mm Plug is enough for smaller damages or road/gravel Tyres: having both available is simply better. The somehow bad reputation of 1.5mm plugs, unable to fix punctures, is due to the common mistake of using these small Plugs with big Forks… opening the hole more than size of the plug. The tiny, dedicated Fork of Tappabuco 1.5 prevents this occurrence.

Effetto Mariposa Shelter Wheel Balance Kit
  • £22.00

Shelter Wheel Kit is made of 35 washers that fit snugly over the valve stem, gluing at its base, with an elegant and almost invisible silencing effect. It's also great to balance wheels, with an additional vibration-reducing action.Key Features:Eliminates valve noises, especially on high-profile rims,Shelter washers can be used to finely balance wheels,Visco-Elastic behaviour reduced vibrations. How to silence valves:Shelter Wheel Kit is made of 35 washers that fit snugly over the valve stem, gluing at its base. With minimum bulk and weight, they provide an elegant and almost invisible silencing effect, cancelling unwanted valve movements and vibrations. The re-sealable bag makes sure washers retain their properties if needed for successive applications.Once Shelter washers are applied on the rim, it’s possible to remove the valve an re-insert it without loosing the silencing effect. This is just one application of our Shelter Wheel Kit, but there’s more.Nobody would drive a fast car whose wheels haven’t been carefully balanced after mounting tyres on.Current high performance bicycle wheels, with fancy ceramic bearings, lightweight carbon rims, cannot deliver their full potential if not properly balanced. It’s an easy task that only requires a Shelter Wheel Kit, a wheel truing stand (or a bicycle turned upside down..), patience and some minutes per wheel.Much nicer and effective than electrical tape to silence valves on high-end wheelsMuch nicer (and effective) than electrical tape to silence valves on high-end wheelsHow to balance wheels:Mount the tyre (and eventually disk) on the wheel, so that the wheel is in its rideable form.IMPORTANT: if balancing a tubeless wheel, make sure there’s very little or no liquid sealant inside (that can be added later). Liquid sealant spreads while riding without creating wheel unbalance, but it will interfere with static balancing.Place the wheel on a truing stand and make sure it can rotate freely. With a gentle push, make the wheel spin. After a few complete rotations in the direction of the push, the wheel will enter a pendulum phase where it makes partial rotations, back and forth. Behaving like a pendulum, the excess of weight on the wheel is subject to a restoring force (due to gravity) that accelerates it toward the equilibrium position. Amplitude of swings will reduce until the wheel stops: the lowest point is where the excess weight is.Often wheels stop with the valve at the lowest point… but sometimes uneven weight distribution on the tyre or less-than-accurate carbon fiber lay up overcompensate that, and the lowest point is not corresponding to the valve.Keeping the lowest point of the rim/tyre as reference, identify the opposite point on the rim (you can find it using a ruler, aligned with the lowest point and the wheel axle) and adhere a Shelter washer there.Repeat the process from #1. Each time the heaviest point may move slightly (because of friction in the hub), but it will normally remain within a +-10 cm (4 inches) range. The wheel is balanced when, upon making it turn, IT WILL STOP WITHOUT ENTERING THE PENDULUM PHASE (it won’t change its rotation sense). With each subsequent spin, the lowest point when the wheel stops is a random point on the circumference, changing every time and depending on bearing friction.Washers can be adhered one on top of the other, or side by side, on top of the rim or on its side (depending on rim profile/size).A good trick, although not always possible, is finding a spoke that’s close to the lightest point of the wheel and cutting the washer on one side, so that the washer can be put around the spoke. Each Shelter washer weights around 1 g. Typical wheel unbalance ranges from 4 to 12 grams.Visco-elasticity reduces vibrations:That’s an added bonus when balancing a wheel with Shelter washers. The transmission of vibrational energy through any structure can be reduced by introducing visco-elastic materials at discrete points. It’s exactly what Shelter does, contributing to reduce vibrations on very stiff wheels.
