Triple-Butted Alloy MTB Frame The Alloy Reactor features a custom triple butted hydro-formed tube set and carbon seat stays, which help reduce the overall weight of the frameset. Critically this reduces the unsprung weight; making the suspension as active as possible. The Reactor is available for 27.5” or 29” wheel sizes. These are two totally different, compromise-free frames that were designed and developed at the same time. Each frame is simply tailored around each wheel size. Speed or play: which do you value more? The manoeuvrability of 27.5” or the raw speed of a 29”? Adjustable Geometry All Reactor frames feature a “flip chip” to adjust the geometry from “Trail” to “Rail mode”. Trail – As the name suggests, this setting is best suited for trail riding. It is for riders who get as much enjoyment from the climb as the descents. Rail - The Rail setting turns the Reactor into a corner shredder, dropping the bottom bracket 6mm and slackening the head angle by half a degree. It is there to maximise the descending capabilities. Suspension Design To ensure the bike could climb as well as it descends, Nukeproof designed the four bar horst linkage to have higher levels of anti-squat for climbing gears but lower levels when you drop down the cassette. This means that the bike can behave itself on the climbs but when you get it up to speed, it turns into a trail hooligan. The combination of low anti-squat and progressive rate give ultimate small bump compliance (removes rough trail and root chatter) with good mid stroke support for cornering/pumping and end stroke progression for aggressive riding. Balanced anti-rise figures allow the Reactor some squat when braking hard, maintaining rider position and providing a good amount of pressure through the tyre to ensure traction. Commencal has been working on 29/27 ‘Mullet’ bikes and frames for many years now with their different downhill (DH) teams. This work has allowed Commencal to understand that to transform a regular bike with the same sized wheels into a bike with different sized wheels, it isn’t effective to just throw a 27-inch wheel on the back. The geometry and kinematics of the bike must be completely reworked and it is thanks to this experience that we are now able to present the most successful version of the META V4 they've ever produced, the META AM. Equipping this META AM with different sized 29/27-inch wheels is not the result of a trend that Commencal is following. Quite simply, this way the bike is much more balanced, specifically relating to grip on the front and back - the large 29-inch wheel on the front allows more confidence and rolling capacity whilst the 27.5-inch rear wheel offers more manoeuvrability and responsiveness. The result is a bike that is more agile and easier on the steeps, more efficient under braking and more dynamic when pushing hard. Once again, Commencal's choice to work with Aluminium has allowed them to accompany this change in wheel size with an adjustment of the geometry. A shorter 10mm reach, a straightened steerer angle and extended (10mm) chainstays mean that the rider is naturally repositioned in the centre of the bike and will therefore have the ability to be more precise and agile in their technique. Undoubtedly, one of the points that have changed the most is the way the suspension works. Apart from the kinematics which has been reworked to provide more liveliness, Commencal made a point of managing the stiffness of the rear triangle. Through new double row Enduro Bearings, eliminating any deformation, the new META AM frame offers perfect deformation/rigidity management to provide grip, comfort and performance. In addition to all this in-depth work, as on their META POWER TR and META TR models, Commencal now offers a "Flip Chip" on the shock extension in order to be able to better adjust the geometry, and therefore fit with your style. This system also means you can adapt the height of the bottom bracket as well as the steerer and saddle angles within seconds. Depending on your preferences, you can have the choice between a dynamic bike that’s perfect for big pedalling trips, or a more progressive version that is ideal for days in the bike park or on more committed trails. Finally, they have worked on a detail that makes the difference; the finished look. The welds have been the subject of meticulous work to reduce them as much as possible without affecting the solidity of the frame. The cable routing is neat for easier maintenance, the cables being easily accessible in the down tube, while grommets are placed at the ends to give perfect support and prevent penetration of water and mud. Installing a bottle cage has also been made easy.
