Dimpled shoulders and sleeves deal with boundary-layer aerodynamics while a smooth body is deployed to reduce skin friction and reduce drag to as little as possible. The 3% saving comes at higher speeds, particularly between the 45-65 km/h range, speeds at which races are won and lost. While comfort wasn't the main focus for the BTW, Castelli still uses highly breathable, full-stretch fabrics. An increase in Lycra® content gives a super-snug fit, albeit with a slight reduction in wicking performance. And it doesn't have the same front opening as the San Remo suit, so pee stops are a bit more challenging. But it's a fast suit, and that's what counts.
