From the outset of the Torch 3.0 Road shoe design process our goal was to create a performance offering as feature-packed as any top-end shoe. The challenge however was pulling this off at a palatable price. In order to achieve this we utilized three strategically placed materials on the uppers that are welded together—TPU and mesh in the front and synthetic leather in the rear. This makes for a more comfortable and supportive front of the shoe. A stiff rear and heel cup meanwhile lock down your heel and keep all of your watts going into the pedals as efficiently as possible. This refined upper is combined with our legendary FACT carbon fiber sole to further ensure an efficient power transfer. Finally we topped the Torch 3.0 off with two Boa® S2-SV Snap dials for zonal closure and a precise fit that leads to all-day comfort. Body Geometry sole construction and footbeds are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to boost power increase efficiency and reduce chance of injury by optimizing hip knee and foot alignment. FACT™ carbon composite sole and torsion box construction is directionally rigid for outstanding power transfer: Stiffness Index 8.5. Dual Boa® S2-SV Snap dial closure for on-the-fly micro-adjustment backed by the Boa® Lifetime Guarantee. Mesh TPU and synthetic layer upper are placed in specific zones for comfort and lock-down and are thermobonded for a superior fit. Standard Fit for support and all-day comfort. Three-bolt cleat pattern fits all major road pedals. Approximate weight: 248g (1/2 pair Size 42)
The Recon 3.0 is all about putting the legendary performance of our S-Works Recon—power transfer comfort light weight style—in a package perfect for the XC and gravel rider. Starting with Body Geometry Recon 3.0 delivers comfort and efficiency with features that stand-out off the beaten path. Looking for in the saddle speed as well as off-bike performance? Recon 3.0 mates a carbon outsole with a Pavé-inspired glass fiber forefoot to create Carbon STRIDE toe-flex which lets your foot function naturally off the bike yet still provides incredible power transfer with a stiffness index of 10.0. Whether you’re flying up a run-up on the ‘cross course or strolling into the brewhouse post ride STRIDE toe-flex is a game changer. We know venturing off-road means venturing into the unknown so we’ve given the Recon 3.0 XPEL Mesh to create a comfortable fit that sheds water keeping the shoe light and making it dry as fast as it rides. Our SlipNot compound provides full rubber coverage of the outsole for off bike traction on any surface with open treads to eject mud. Dual L6-Snap Boas and a Velcro forefoot closure ensure micro adjustable comfort with a secure fit designed for all day comfort and performance whether your ride calls for open gravel twisting single track and even more than your fair share of hike-a-bike. Body Geometry sole and footbed are built with purpose and backed by science to boost power increase efficiency and reduce the chance of injury by optimizing hip knee and foot alignment. Carbon STRIDE toe-flex technology allows for natural toe movement off-bike but remains stiff for pedaling: Stiffness Index 10.0) Fully-welded upper reduces seams for superior step-in comfort. Independent BOA® L6-Snap dials for on-the-fly micro-adjustment. SlipNot™ rubber tread for confident traction on all terrain with removable toe studs. Two-bolt cleat pattern fits all major MTB pedals.
Introducing Helix, the new standard in performance footwear. Bont Cycling’s race-proven anatomic fit is now even further enhanced by a newly reimagined closure system. Experience performance and comfort without compromise like never before. Features: Durolite Strength to weight ratio's have always played an important part in Bont cycling shoe design as all materials considered and developed for products within the Bont range must comply to strict standards. Durolite has been developed and chosen for the Helix upper for its extremely durable nature and light weight. Retention System Continuous wiring spreads the load for a secure hold without localised pressure points. Cable Routing Cable routing wraps around and under the rigid carbon chassis for a wide, even anchor point. Single Boa The single Boa dial simplifies operation for quick and easy on-the-fly adjustments. Unidirectional Carbon Chassis The Helix continues with its unidirectional monocoque chassis in matt finish and is upgraded with an improved grid to assist cleat adjustment. TPU Toe Protector The toe protector not only protects the front area of the shoe from wheel rub and impact, but also houses ventilation holes for improving airflow through the shoe. Ventilation The Helix is highly ventilated with integrated air vents on the front bumper providing direct airflow into the shoe along with perforated upper and tongue to maximise breathability. Anti Stretch Between the outer leather and the liner we add a material that is proprietary to Bont to stop the cycling shoe from stretching over time. This material has similar strength characteristics to Kevlar. The material is stitched to the outer leather and bonded to the liner so it can never move or be removed, it becomes part of the cycling shoes structure. This layer assits in pedalling efficiency by maintaining a supportive structure over the top of the foot in the upward part of the pedal stroke. Last Design A last is a replica of a foot that the cycling shoe is built around. Last makers do not make cycling shoe lasts, they only make shoe lasts so perfecting a cycling shoe last requires a great deal of expertise in functional biomechanics and ongoing research. At Bont, we have been perfecting our performance footwear lasts since 1975 and the process is ongoing. We believe we place more importance and thus place more effort into our last than any other cycling shoe brand and it is the reason that Bont cycling shoes continue to be a leader in providing the most functional and correct anatomical support to cyclists than any other brand on the market. Our motto in terms of cycling shoe fit is simple, We make shoes for cycling, not walking. Carbon Fiber Bont carbon fiber is sourced exclusively from the world's #1 carbon manufacturer, Toray of Japan. The base of the Helix is made by hand utilizing uni-directional carbon fiber which is embedded with epoxy thermo setting resin. The fibers are hand laid in the matrix according to the strain they will have to bear. The Helix utilizes unidirectional carbon fiber allowing Bont to create a performance cycling shoe with very specific strength characteristics based on stress points in cycling. As unidirectional carbon absorbs less resin then cross weave fibers, it also assists in the weight reduction of the cycling shoes. Padding The Helix utilises closed cell memory foam that will not retain water assisting in maintaining a lighter shoe during wet conditions as well as ensuring sweat which can begin to break down the durability of the shoe is not absorbed. Medial Longitudinal Arch Support Structural medial longitudinal arch support is provided in all models to stop over pronation of feet. Over pronation is one of the main contributors to incorrect tracking of knees during a cyclists pedaling phase due to internal rotation of tibia and femur. This can result in knee injuries. In addition, the rotation of tibia/femur can cause the pelvis to tilt resulting in lower back strain. Anatomical Forefoot Shape Conventional cycling shoes offer a “dress shoe” type shaping. Although highly aesthetic this will cause the toes along with the metatarsals to be overly constricted, compressing the nerves between the metatarsals which often results in the common hot foot sensation. Bont cycling shoes anatomical shaping allows the foot to function in its most efficient and anatomically correct position. The foot is supported in its endeavour to relax through the metatarsal joints allowing the pedalling force to be spread across the greatest possible surface area. Anatomical Heel Cup The anatomical heel cup shaping of Bont cycling shoes provides increased stability during the pull through stage of pedaling stroke and up stroke. This stabilization is achieved without any mechanical operation or over tightening of straps/laces allowing for increased comfort and blood circulation. Lateral Forefoot Support Bont’s lateral forefoot support ensures neutral positioning of the forefoot and alleviates common issues associated with over pronation and supination. These issues often result in incorrect tracking of knees causing injuries along with hip and lower back pain.
