The Spank SPIKE 800 Race bar has been developed along with some of the World’s top downhill (DH) and Enduro pros and utilised a unique construction of Super-6™ aluminium, Spank’s patented CNC bending, and its Dual-Extreme-Gradual Taper (XGT) technology. Dual XGT (Extreme Gradual Taper) Technology This is a proprietary tube drawing process that tapers the bars from the thickest area at the bar clamping zone, slowly and gradually through the bend zones, to the thinnest areas at the control zones and back to thicker reinforced bar end zones, or “Impact Ends”. Spank has utilized FEA (Finite Element Analysis), laboratory, and rigorous real-world testing to optimise the spread of material to where it is needed to withstand the specific forces at work in each zone while offering better protection against crashes than ever before. The extreme precision enabled by Dual XGT drawing processes also eliminates the need for heavy hand grinding, which can result in imperfections and inconsistency in wall thickness. Impact Ends The Impact Ends reduce the chance of collapse in areas where the wall is thinner and in heavy impacts. The Spank SPIKE Race 33 features the unique Oohbah technology, found only on Spank rims and wheels. Traditionally, the central channel of a rim is slightly curved or flat on most rims, but the Spank-specific Oohbah design features a wave-like pattern in the centre. This Oohbah feature in the centre of the rim adds exceptional strength and makes the entire rigid and creates greater lateral stiffness, traits commonly only found on wheels that are much heavier. This structural benefit also allows Spank to make rims that are wider without having to add extra material, which would in turn make them heavier. Technologies: Bead Bite: At an incredible range of pressures, Bead Bite is the solution to keeping your tyres burp free and fixed in place. Bead Bite rim technology enhances tubeless use with tyres of all types and with a greater range of air pressures. Bead Bite rims have 6 rows of tiny ridges that run along the vertical and horizontal faces of the bead seats. These tiny teeth create air seals between the rim and tyre as the bead conforms into them under air pressure. They dramatically increase frictional forces on the tyre bead, reducing the beads’ ability to move vertically or horizontally (thus improving tyre stability and reducing burps). The bead literally becomes trapped between the vertical and horizontal ridges, even at very low air pressures. Even in tubed applications, Bead Bite rims tend to allow much lower air pressures with reduced risk of pinch flats Oohbah: The unique OohBah profile allows Spank to manufacture thinner walled, wider profiled, lighter rims without sacrificing strength or rigidity. Wider rims mean stiffer wheels and more tyre spread, leading to greater traction and improved comfort, and tyre performance. The “wave” shape of the OohBah inner tube adds strength and support to the vertical rim flange walls and prevents buckling. Normal straight or curved tube wells must be much thicker, and by default heavier, to offer the same support ERD ++: In recent years many new standards of nipples have been introduced, and nipple head heights vary.
