Taking its name from a phrase coined by fast-jet military test pilots - (we'll let you research that one) - the BTW Speed Suit has been created purely in the pursuit of speed. Castelli utilised CFD analysis, 3D test mannequins, fabric research and testing, numerous wind tunnel tests, and real-world WorldTour riding, resulting in their most aero suit yet. Dimpled shoulders and sleeves deal with boundary-layer aerodynamics while a smooth body is deployed to reduce skin friction and reduce drag to as little as possible. The 3% saving comes at higher speeds, particularly between the 45-65 km/h range, speeds at which races are won and lost. While comfort wasn't the main focus for the BTW, Castelli still uses highly breathable, full-stretch fabrics. An increase in Lycra® content gives a super-snug fit, albeit with a slight reduction in wicking performance. And it doesn't have the same front opening as the San Remo suit, so pee stops are a bit more challenging. But it's a fast suit, and that's what counts. Progetto X² Air Seat Pad The top-end Progetto X2 Air Seatpad is now better than ever. Castelli has improved the shape of the back and improved the method of stitching it in place. The result is it now sits flatter and offers greater comfort. The X2 retains its awesome ventilating perforations, keeping you cooler and drier on endurance rides. The design allows air and moisture to flow directly to the surface fabric for quick evaporation maintaining dryness. A 3-layer component construction also features two densities of foam plus gel pads to provide progressive damping. A super-soft and stretchy next-to-skin layer, with an antibacterial finish, completes this premium pad.
Short-distance race suit for speed and comfort Endurance Evolution fabric is lightweight but supportive Close-cut top with longer legs Reduced seaming for faster swims Rear envelope pocket stays closed in the water but makes it easy to carry a gel Fleece seat liner smooths out the bike ride but disappears on the run Weight:170g
Let's start in reverse order: Run: At this point in the race, fatigue sets in. You'll love the comfort of this suit. The front Samremo opening construction doesn't pull you forward, and it makes pee stops easier and lets you open it up when you feel too hot. The fabrics are quick drying, light and cool. The seat pad that felt so good on the bike is small enough you hardly feel it. The two rear pockets compress your gels so they don't bounce around. The long legs with Giro4 leg gripper elastic don't ride up and don't bind. Maybe you'll even notice that you don't have as many burning spots where you've been chafed raw. Somehow, you're thinking that comfort gives you an extra push, some extra speed. Bike: You relish these couple of hours to put some distance into the other guys. This suit benefits from the aero research of Castelli's Pro PR suit but is tuned for speeds ranging from medium to high. The legs and sleeves provide excellent coverage while the back gives decent sun protection and the two pockets hold plenty of nutrition. And you appreciate the Castelli know-how in seat pad construction. Put your head down and pass a few more riders. Swim: The reduced seaming and long arms and legs help you cut through the water while the pockets lie flat and don't catch water. The fit is snug and the lightweight fabrics don't hold as much water. The shoulder area is extra stretchy for freedom of movement even under a wetsuit or swimskin.
In 2016 we started our aero research project with the Norwegian Technical University in Trondheim. Besides having a couple of brilliant professors and PhD students to come up with ideas and do the basic research, they have a couple of wind tunnels, rapid prototyping capabilities, CFD analysis and a true desire to make fast stuff. The first big success from the research was Team Sky's TT suit that placed four riders in the top eight at the opening Tour de France time trial. Then the UCI made it illegal. So this suit isn't UCI legal (but neither is your bike). It's faster than the pro cyclists' suits and very illegal due to the silicone ribs in the arms. The main body fabric is an impossibly light 50 denier — usually in sports clothing 40 denier is considered ultrafine. The legs and sleeves are long for aerodynamics, while the light fabrics are great for dealing with heat since they're thin enough to not get weighed down, yet the 8% Lycra® content holds a bit of moisture next to your skin for rapid cooling. The insane stretch allows us to make something that truly fits like a second skin on the bike but that doesn't restrict in any way on the swim or run. The PR Speed Suit KISS Tri pad offers some welcome padding while you're on the bike but is thin enough to not bother you on the run. This suit offers real time savings on the bike leg while providing cooling and comfort on the run, but it was made with the expectation of being worn under a swimskin or wetsuit for the swim. It's optimized for high speeds — top age groupers or pro athletes, or anyone looking to set a new PR.
Speeding to the Future The original road-racing speed suit was first unveiled in 2011 at Paris Roubaix, the ultimate cobbled classic. From that moment on, the approach to competition-focused cycling kit changed. This Sanremo RC Speed Suit has evolved from that original speed suit. It combines the advanced aerodynamics of the cutting-edge Castelli Aero Race 6 Jersey and the incredible comfort and supportive fit of their Free Aero RC Bib Shorts. The convenience of separate shorts and jersey but with an integrated design that delivers race-winning aerodynamics. Using CFD analysis, Castelli’s engineers have precisely placed seams and low-drag fabrics where they are most effective at maintaining aero efficiency. The most meaningful gains are to be found in the range of 30 to 55 km/h. Uncompromised Comfort With speed comes intense effort. And hence heat. And sweat. However, highly breathable and quick-wicking materials to regulate your body temperature to prevent overheating and deal quickly with moisture. The 3D mesh back, in particular, is quick to draw moisture off the skin and allow unimpeded airflow to speed up sweat evaporation. As befits a suit for use on the road, you have the benefit of storage pockets. Perfect for storing an energy gel or energy bar. Both sleeves and leg grippers get a raw-cut finish for the smoothest and most comfortable fit. The leg grippers stay put without the need for silicone too. Progetto X2 Air Seamless Seat Pad The first contact point against the skin is the super-soft upper skin-care material. It's now seamless and even softer than previous generation pads. The next layer, Castelli’s infinitely variable thickness padding, imparts just the right level of support where you need it - thicker under the sit bones and thinner on the sides and under the perineum. The results are outstanding comfort with reduced bulk. Lastly, to really push home superior comfort levels, perforated viscous padding is added under the highly sensitive ischial and perineum pressure areas, offering luxurious support when you're on the saddle for hours on end.
A completely new approach for sprint and short distance racing the Castelli SD Team Race Tri Suit has been developed in close collaboration with the German Triathlon Federation (DTU) with aims to design a suit that's ready for any battle on the ITU (International Triathlon Union) circuit. In ITU racing you can't afford to lose valuable seconds in the water due to bad equipment. Therefore high-performance fabrics and optimised patterning for best aerodynamics and comfort on the bike till the finish line offer everything you'd expect from a suit that has to prove suitability on the highest level of pro racing.
The Women's Core Spry-Oly Suit is a triathlon suit designed for shorter triathlon distances such as Olympic and Sprint. Made from Castelli’s Endurance Evolution fabric the tri suit provides optimum muscle support and is quick drying, which is ideal for triathlon as this reduces the chance of chaffing when transitioning from the swim to the cycle. A fleece seat liner replaces a normal tri pad. The fleece provides comfort on the bike but is virtually unnoticeable on the run. Reduced seaming further improves comfort on the run and the swim. An envelope rear pocket provides storage for a gel – likely all that’s needed for such short distances.

Castelli's best all-around long-distance race suit but in a sleeveless version. This suit trades the on-bike aerodynamic advantages of sleeves for the comfort and cooling of a sleeveless top. Everything else is full race performance. The short portion is built around comfort, with compressive fabrics for muscle support, the GIRO4 leg gripper that holds the leg securely in place without the dreaded sausage effect, and the KISS Tri seat pad that provides good padding and comfort on the bike yet is hardly noticeable on the run. The upper portion features the Castelli Sanremo overlapping front opening to optimize fit during the swim and run when you're fully stretched out, while avoiding folds when hunched over in the bike position. There are two generous rear pockets, and the armholes have been constructed to reduce chafing during the run. If you're not fighting for the win or a Kona slot, maybe the comfort-aerodynamics trade-off is worth it.
