The R7100 Shimano 12-speed cassette represents the first time 12-speed cassettes have been brought to the Japanese component maker’s 105 groupset; the groupset favored by recreational cyclists around the world. Better Shifting, More Performance: The previous R7000 model offered excellent shifting, even under load. The R7100 version has been refined further and boasts improved efficiency, quicker and smoother shifts. All that separates the ranges is the materials used, which add weight. But it’s the less expensive materials that enable the brand to the R7100 cassette at a more affordable price. Though the materials may be less expensive, this is not to say they are poor quality. Typically, Shimano will use heavier, harder wearing materials for the 105 range, when compared to the top-tier models.
