Thanks to trickle-down technology and Shimano using techniques honed in their top-of-the-range models, the products in the 105 range now perform comparably to the more expensive Dura-Ace and Ultegra lines. All that separates the ranges is the materials used, which add weight. But it’s the less expensive materials that enable the brand to the R7100 cassette at a more affordable price. Though the materials may be less expensive, this is not to say they are poor quality. Typically, Shimano will use heavier, harder wearing materials for the 105 range, when compared to the top-tier models.
