Castelli had simple goals for their Superleggera 3 Short Sleeve Jersey. Make it as light as possible, and as breathable as possible, while not compromising on transparency, sun protection and functional details. The Oltre textile, with its distinctive horizontal mesh stripe construction, provides superb breathability, making sure heat and harder efforts won’t leave you overheating and overly sweaty. It also offers support for the rear pockets, preventing too much annoying sag when you’re loaded up for a ride. Attention to detail is superb, as expected. Every seam, stitch and component is carefully designed for optimal performance and comfort. A no-sew construction around the sleeves and hem gives a deluxe finish and the YKK® zipper is incredibly easy to slide for easy operation. Pro riders are squeezing into ever more aero cycling jerseys, but for the majority of us, the more forgiving tailoring of the Superleggera 3 strikes the right balance of comfort, freedom of movement and smooth airflow. The Castelli Superleggera Bibshort is designed for the hottest conditions and is the latest iteration in Castellis quest to build the most lightweight bibshort. Castelli has been developing lightweight bibshorts since 2011, but when designing the Superleggera Bibshort Castelli went back to the drawing board to rethink every aspect of the shorts design. Castelli decided that what the short needs to do is hold the seat pad securely in place while adding as little weight as possible and retaining durability. The solution was to engineer a brand-new fabric that is woven rather a knit, saving 30% in weight for the same level of support. Castelli also worked with a world leading mill to create a graded fabric that becomes increasingly lighter the further down the leg it extends. At the lightest point, this fabric weighs 90g/m2 compared to normal short fabric which weighs roughly 220g/m2. The result of these new technologies is a bibshort that weighs an incredibly light 141g in size large. The fabric construction saves weight, but it really comes into its own when riding hard in hot conditions as it absorbs 30% less moisture compared to normal short fabric. This means that while the fabric saves 48g in weight when dry, it saves closer to 150g when youre sweating your way up Cols and pushing yourself to your absolute limit.
