Instead of telling gravel riders what they needed, we asked them what they wanted. Shimano spent two years listening and countless hours speaking with gravel enthusiasts from all over the world. We took to dirt and gravel roads, narrow singletrack paths, creek crossings, and mountain passes to test ourselves and our notions of drop bar cycling. We pinned on race numbers and packed up bikepacking bags. We choked on dust and reveled in mud. And the result of all that riding and all those new friendships? First, Shimano’s Gravel Alliance and now, Shimano GRX, the world’s first dedicated gravel component series.Choice. Shimano’s new GRX line is all about choice. Shimano doesn’t want to pigeonhole the way you ride, or decide for you what the best solution is for your riding style. While we’ve long been fans of double chainring drivetrains, we also recognize the value of a single chainring system. With GRX, Shimano offers both, each with gearing options that allow you to tailor your drivetrain to suit your tastes. With two different derailleur cage lengths, Shimano GRX ensures stable shifting and chain retention across a wide range of gearing options. Looking for maximum range while maintaining road cassette progression? Go with GRX’s 800 series 2x11 RD-RX810 or Di2 RD- RX815 rear derailleurs, designed for close ratio clusters, with 48/31 chainrings and an 11-34 cassette. Paired with 700c x 40mm tires, it delivers a top gear similar to a road bike with 25mm tires and a 50 x 11 gear. And on the low end, with its 31 x 34 combination, you get a gear that early mountain bikers would envy. It is the lowest gear currently on offer for premium road drivetrains (aside from Shimano’s own GRX 2x10 30-36 offering), perfect for climbing loose, dirt and gravel surfaces.Want to drop some weight, simplify your shifting, and still maintain a versatile range? Consider the 1x11 GRX option with either Shimano’s 11-40 or 11-42 cassette and a 40 or 42-tooth equipped crankset, shifted by a RD-RX812 or Di2 RD-RX817 wide ratio rear derailleur. You’ll lose a little, absolute top speed, but still love the 1:1 low gear ratio. If you live in an area without sustained or steep climbs, you might love the smaller gear steps of that same 1x11 front chainring with an 11-34 cassette. Options abound. What about when the weather turns autumnal and you contract a case of cyclocross fever? GRX 1x11 can quickly transform from gravel fun to CX focused with the change of a cassette. No matter the option you select, GRX rear derailleur offerings feature Shimano’s SHADOW Plus chain stabilizer that can be turned on or off depending on conditions. SHADOW Plus revolutionized the mountain bike world and now it’s been tuned for gravel and rough road riding in GRX. Castelli have long been pioneers of lightweight shorts for hot-weather cycling but in pursuit of lighter weights, durability can be compromised. The Superleggera Bib Shorts are a result of Castelli's design team looking for an innovative way to achieve performance in the heat without over-compromising durability. Hot Weather Cycling. No Sweat. It starts with Castelli using a cutting-edge development in woven fabric rather than the traditional knit fabric of standard shorts. This reduces weight by some 50% while still offering the same level of muscle support and non-transparency. Uniquely, the fabric is also graded so that it becomes lighter as you move down the leg. The last part of the leg weighs a mere 90 g/m² compared to the usual 220 g/m² of standard cycling shorts. Less weight equals greater comfort as the heat rises. Reduced moisture absorption is also key to the Superleggera's comfort and lack of weight. When dry, the shorts weigh a measly 141 grams. However, they actually absorb 30% less moisture too, so when you really get a sweat on they stay light. Compared to normal shorts that could be as much as 150 grams in weight saved - a welcome boost to power to your weight ratio as you head upwards. While being barely-there light the fabric is durable and abrasion-resistant against the saddle too - though something this light won't like you hitting the tarmac so ride safe and rubber side down. The bib section of the shorts is borrowed from the Free Aero Race 4 Bib shorts for perfect support, comfort and moisture management while stretch-woven grippers, with Lycra, keep the shorts locked in place over the thighs. Progetto X2 Air Seamless Seat Pad Inside the shorts is Castelli's fabulously comfortable Progetto X2 Air Seamless seat pad. So what exactly makes it so comfortable? It starts with the first contact point against the skin. This upper skin-care material is now seamless and even softer than previous versions letting you enjoy smooth and chafe-free pedalling, no matter the distance. The next layer, Castelli’s infinitely variable thickness padding, imparts just the right level of support where you need it, thicker under the sit bones and thinner on the sides and under the perineum - the result is intense comfort with reduced bulk. Lastly, to really push home superior comfort levels, perforated viscous padding is added under the highly sensitive ischial and perineum pressure areas, offering luxurious support when you're on the saddle for hours on end.
Enhanced with X-Horizon shifting technology, the SRAM GX 11 speed rear derailleur eliminates ghost shifting and reduces shift force and chain slap. It also features the Cage Lock features, which locks the derailleur out of the way when removing and installing wheels to the process much easier. Technologies: Cage Lock: With Cage Lock technology in the rear derailleur, wheel removal and installation, as well as chain installation, becomes faster and simpler. Just pushing the cage forward to create slack and lock it into place. Roller Bearing Clutch: Roller Bearing Clutch (RBC) rear derailleurs deliver maximum drivetrain stability—even through the most punishing terrain. With RBC technology, derailleur bounce and chain slap are eliminated without sacrificing precision. X-Actuation: Developed specifically for SRAM 1X, X-Actuation keeps shifting sharp and consistent across the entire 10 to 42-tooth cassette. X-Horizon: The X-Horizon rear derailleur’s ‘straight parallelogram’ design limits all movement to the horizontal axis, which makes ghost shifting impossible while also reducing shift force. For quicker, more exact shifting, the large upper pulley offset design maintains a constant chain gap across all gears. X-Sync: SRAM X-Sync 1X chainrings provide the highest level of performance and durability. The SRAM X-Sync tall square teeth edges engage the chain earlier than traditional triangle shaped teeth. The sharp and narrow tooth profile, as well as rounded chamfer edges, help manage a deflected chain. To provide the best possible performance in muddy conditions, the X-Sync chain rings have been designed with mud-clearing recesses for the inner chain links and rollers. Engineered in Germany, X-Sync rings are an integral part of the SRAM 1X drivetrain.
