The application of The Spine Concept™ to handlebar shape is the result of fi’zi:k’s research with riders of 3 UCI World Tour Teams that were riding fi’zi:k saddles. A correlation was found between the saddle shape each rider was using and the handlebar shape they were riding. Just as your choice of fi’zi:k Spine Concept™ saddle shape is guided by your degree of spinal flexibility and subsequent pelvic rotation, fi’zi:k offers this same concept to find your most comfortable handlebar shape. The Snake Handlebar: If you are very spinally flexible (far less than 90 degrees between your straight legs and your back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a Snake. You are better able to reach further and get down lower to use the full radius of more rounded, classic-style, deeper-drop handlebars. You will prefer the Snake Handlebar because it has a longer reach (85mm) and deeper, classic-style drop (140mm). The Chameleon Handlebar: If you have an intermediate degree of spinal flexibility (approximately 90 degrees between your straight legs and your back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a chameleon. You are better able to reach further, but perhaps you can’t get down quite as low on the handlebar drops as a Snake would be able to. You will prefer the Chameleon Handlebar because it has a longer reach (85mm) but a shallower, more ergonomic-style drop (135mm). The Bull Handlebar: If you have a relatively low degree of spinal flexibility (more than 90 degrees between your straight legs and back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a Bull. You will not be able to reach as far or bend as low as a Snake or a Chameleon would be able to. You will prefer the Bull Handlebar because it has a shorter reach (80mm) and a shallower, more ergonomic-style handlebar drop (130mm). It has a wider sitting area shape narrowing down toward the nose for better weight distribution and less friction on the thighs. Luce Carbon Large is a wider option, to accommodate the best fit for all women cyclists, with a maximum width of 155mm To create a shape for truly comfortable high-performance long rides, we made the strong, light shell from three separate sections: a carbon reinforced nylon spine co-injected with two very flexible, strong panels made from a thermoplastic elastomer. We built the Luce Carbon Large on narrow carbon Mobius rail construction, accommodating a specially designed elongated pressure relief cut out, offering a combination of flexible support – called IschialFlex - under the sit-bones and comfortable freedom for the rider’s soft tissues. This unique shape that provides a perfect profile for female cyclists and maintains structural stability over time. Luce Carbon Large - made for women - has a maximum width of 155mm and weighs just 185g.
