Forwards, Faster, Further - three words that encapsulate the Boardman ethos and influence every product Boardman have made. These three words represent the vast spectrum of our rider's cycling ambitions and goals, which Boardman want to support them in achieving, however big or small they are.When it comes to riding bikes, kids are constantly pushing forwards, riding faster and exploring further. So when designing our first full range of junior bikes, Boardman have put Forwards, Faster, Further on each bike to keep the childlike joy and freedom of pushing the boundaries on a bike at the front of our minds.The JNR range comprises six models, each with the goal of getting kids outside, cycling and exploring whilst supporting their developmental progression. From those first freewheeling forward movements on the 12" balance bike to the pride of mastering pedalling and going faster than before on the 20", to a family adventure venturing further on the 26", we've carefully considered every aspect of each bike's fit and function. Function hasn't come at the expense of form though, hidden welds and premium metallic paint finishes help the bikes to look as good as they ride.Our goal is to ensure that the simple act (after some practice) of riding a Boardman JNR is as fun and empowering as possible. Boardman beginnings, providing little ones with the cycling foundations they can build on as they grow and gain confidence. As with all the JNR models, quality is key and always starts with the frame. The small yet perfectly formed triple-butted aluminium frame and fork keep weight low, and the single down tube construction upfront allows greater standover clearance for those finding their feet astride two wheels. Wide, fast-rolling tyres reduce bumps and vibration to build confidence, and as this grows and the speeds increase, the adjustable reach brake lever is designed for tiny hands to help even the smallest of speedsters to slow their roll. Inevitably toddlers get tired or distracted, and parents always end up having to carry the bike around. Having had experienced this, Boardman have included a simple carry handle in the back of the balance bike-sized saddle, making things comfy for both child and parent alike.
The MHT 8.6 Womens combines trail friendly geometry with cross-country speed for a fast and confidence inspiring ride. The MTX 8.8 W Hybrid Bike is the ideal do-everything bike for those who are looking to take on both rough roads and light trails. To ensure the weight of the bike is kept to a minimum, the frame is made from light, yet strong, aluminium which is coupled with Suntour suspension forks (adjustable for different surfaces) making for a high performing comfortable bike.Quality components such as powerful Shimano hydraulic brakes and the reliable Shimano Deore gears mean that all aspects of the bike combine together to provide a confidence-inspiring ride.With narrower bars, shorter stems and a women’s specific saddle, Boardman Women’s bikes are tailored to the needs of female riders.
Fast, fun and versatile is what the HYB range of leisure and fitness hybrids is all about. Frames take inspiration from our SLR road range, but with an extra bit of stability baked in. Puncture-protected 35mm tyres balance low rolling resistance with a plush ride and offer enough grip for light off-roading too. Our new one-piece integrated handlebar and stem adds a clean aesthetic to the look and feel, while the ergonomic grips help to reduce numbness and long ride discomfort.The HYB 8.9 is our highest specification hybrid in the range, using the same triple-butted 6061 X7 Aluminium frame and C7 Carbon fork as the 8.8, but offering upgraded gearing, brakes, saddle and tyres.If high speeds both up and downhill are your priority, the HYB 8.9 is the bike to pick. That isn’t to say comfort and practicality have been sacrificed though. Shimano’s Deore 12 speed mountain bike gears utilise a colossal range 10-51 tooth cassette, adapted for hybrid use with a 44 tooth FSA Gossamer 1X chainset. This combination offers ratios for both spinning up steep hills, and a big top gear for high speed cruising and descending, without significant gaps in between. These ratios give the same range as a 50/34t road compact chainset with an 11-32 cassette but without the complexity of a front derailleur. Simply shift the rear mech up and down to make things easier or harder.Shimano also takes care of braking, with their MT400 hydraulic disc brakes. The original SLR 8.9 Carbon was our most popular carbon road bike, and for good reason. We think the light, stiff and comfortable carbon frame designed with aerodynamic tube profiles and features is a perfect platform for all-round road riding, and the reviewers agreed with us. For most bike brands, 4.5 out of 5 reviews and comments like “Blimey, what a corker!” (road.cc) would be a reason to kick back and celebrate a job well done. However, at Boardman, we are always looking for ways we can push our bikes to the next level, and this is what we have done for the new SLR 8.9 Carbon.One of the only criticisms we could level at the old bike was the 10 speed gears – functional, but a little heavy and unrefined. With that in mind, we’ve upgraded the shifting to Shimano’s 11 speed R7000 105.
