Shifting is not just smooth, it's lightning-fast, with no "shift lag" as you wait for the chain to connect with the ramp pins on upshifts. The aluminum arms join a machined alloy spider, creating a tremendously stiff package that doesn't weigh all that much more than its carbon equivalents. The Rival 22 crankset, like all SRAM 22-speed drivetrain cranks, is designed to work with any of the company's Yaw front derailleurs, which rotates the cage as it shifts, improving shifting precision and eliminating the need for trimming to avoid chain contact with the cage's rear edges.
