Rather than get too complicated, Castelli have focused on just the essentials you need in a lightweight rain jacket. Made from Deluge Light 2.5-layer waterproof fabric, the Emergency Rain Jacket achieves a 10,000mm waterproof rating. A waterproof front zipper and sealed seams also keep water ingress and seepage at bay. An extended tail prevents a soaking from rear wheel spray and the long sleeves provide a smooth fit and one that works well with gloves. The only real compromise is it's not quite as breathable as more expensive jackets in the Castelli line. To prevent you from wasting energy and to stop excess flapping material when cycling, Castelli have tailored the jacket with a snug fit. But with some slight stretch in the fabric, you’ll still be able to move easily and it will fit over a winter thermal jersey or jacket too. If and when the rain passes then it folds up into an integrated stuff pocket, making it easy to pop in a jersey pocket.
