It has a good level of traction and manoeuvrability. The large platform gives you a good space to aim for and while those steel pins offer enough bite to keep you in check. Furthermore they don’t interfere with those last-minute foot repositioning moments. Throughout our time testing the composite Mk4 we rode then with various flat pedal shoes including Five Tens Shimano GR7’s and Giro Riddance and Bontrager Flatline shoes. Each combination complemented each other as well as Manchego cheese and a mature red wine or if you prefer chicken nuggets and a chocolate milkshake. The composite Penthouse Mk4 is a versatile pedal that works well in every environment trail and weather condition you can think of and came back asking for more.' Bigger grippier lighter and as tough as ever. The Penthouse Flat MK5 pedal is here! We didn’t stop to think about the future when our journey started some 17-years ago on the slopes of Schladming in ‘03. The prototype MK1 Penthouse Flat that debuted that weekend inevitably paved the way for the MK2 in ‘07 the MK3 in ‘09 and the MK4 in ‘14. While much has changed in that time our focus towards building the toughest and grippiest flat pedals on the market remains the same. Our goals for the MK5 pedals followed the same design and development path as every other Penthouse Flat pedal before it; utilise any advances in materials and manufacturing balance the weight and durability and maximise the amount of grip. From the MK4 to the MK5 we shed 65 grams per pair increased the platform footprint by 7% the dish by 1mm and decreased the pin width by 0.5mm. Taking on feedback from the MK4 we tried a number of different Q-factors to balance the foot’s position in relation to the cranks. With every flat pedal shoe on the market at our disposal we experimented with different platform sizes pin widths and pin heights to maximise grip underfoot. It was of the utmost importance that the MK5’s internals represent the best of the best. To do this we specced the most wear-resistant bushings from Igus. Their 'Endurance Runner' material - W300 - was a clear winner as this gave unrivalled resistance to external influences. Mud and water ingress is kept at bay with a full contact oil seal this keeps grease in and contaminants out even in the harshest of conditions. This configuration of quality parts is why the Penthouse series has a reputation for outstanding longevity. • Weight: 379g (Steel Axle)• Platform material: 7075 Alloy• Profile: 15mm• Platform: 100mm x 102mm• Dish: 2mm (concave)• Pin material: Stainless steel• Pin width: 3.5mm• Pin height: 4.5mm• Axle Material: EN24T Steel• Internals: 2 x Igus W300 bushes single sealed bearing and inboard rubber oil seal • Colours available: Burgtec Black Race Red Deep Blue Purple Rain Kash Bronze Iron Bro Orange Rhodium Silver Burgtec Bullion Gold Toxic Barbie Pink (Available in stores only) IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE A BETTER PEDAL? Here is what singletrack magazine had to say about the new Mk5 pedal. 'Those of you who can cast your mind back over the past 16 years might be able to remember the first 3 generations of Penthouse mountain bike pedals. Each one was a slight improvement on the last with a nip and tuck here and a refinement there. But by the time they came to the MK4 it was time for a completely new design. It looks like Burgtec is back in the rhythm as the MK5 isn’t a totally new pedal but a refinement over the last.'

The ultimate pedal for enduro racing and riding. The mallet E was developed with the help some well known enduro athletes. 12% smaller than the Mallet DH pedals but with many of its well loved features. There are 2 different axle lengths available 52mm or 57mm (the 57mm pedal is only available in a half black/half blue colour option). The 52mm will provide an engagement point and Q factor similar to other brands of pedals. If you have been previously using the Mallet DH pedal you may benefit from using the longer axle version. Riders who prefer a wider Q factor / have less crankarm / pedal clearance may also benefit from the longer axle pedals. Concave pedal platform for secure foothold. Like it’s DH equivalent you get that flat pedal feel whilst running clipless. 49g lighter and 12% smaller pedal body than the crankbrothers Mallet DH pedal with a 52mm Q-Factor compared to 57mm on the DH equivalent. Ribbed body allows for better traction when unclipped Chamfered edges for reduction in rock strikes Excellent mud-shedding: the design is very open. 4-sided entry: clip in on all 4 sides of the pedal by pushing forward or pulling backwards on the pedal. Increased float: 6° of side-to-side rotational play. The float of the pedal allows for the rider to shift positions on the bike while keeping their feet clipped into the pedal. This allows for improved rider control and bike handling. Fit adjustment: crankbrothers premium cleats can be adjusted for either 15° or 20° release angle. Zero-float cleats can be purchased separately (link to these). Customise the fit between your shoe/pedal interface by using integrated traction pads. The pedals come with the 1mm tread pads fitted and include set of 2mm pads in the box. Outer enduro cartridge bearing is designed specifically for pedals. Enduro use superior materials grease and sealing on their bearings which are designed especially for use on a bike. Inner igus LL-glide bearing has been exclusively formulated for crankbrothers. It performs in even the most adverse conditions out on the trails. Double seal system combines a double lip internal seal and a new external seal to keep water and debris from entering the pedal. crankbrothers pedals are fully re-buildable for simple maintenance. There is a consistency in parts across all pedal models which allows for ease of servicing this is easily done using the pedal refresh kit (CRB-16051). The crankbrothers candy is an iconic pedal designed by Carl and Frank the original founders of crankbrothers they were tired of getting stuck in mud-covered pedals with no way in or out. They realised that existing pedals were too complicated….It started with a simple question: what is the best way to attach a shoe to a crank? To answer this question Carl and Frank created a system with only two moving parts hinging on a spring. This system became known as the eggbeater pedal and later it was adapted into the candy pedal. The Candy is really diverse and is used by a wide range of riders. We have seen them out on the trail at cyclocross races and even on commuter bikes. The cage around the 4 point engagement system inspires confidence and offers a great alternative to the eggbeater pedal if you want more of a pedal body surface area. Cleat: Premium brass cleats included Shims: Included Release Angle: 15° to 20° Warranty: 2 years Weight: 272g per pair Spindle: Forged scm435 chromoly steel Body: one piece composite Wings: Stamped steel Spring: 300 series stainless steel Inner bearing: Bushing Outer bearing: Cartridge Maximum rider weight: No restrictions Colours: Black Blue Red or Neon Green As with the rest of the crankbrothers range the pedals are fully serviceable with a level 1 / 2 service kit (product code CRB-11729). Servicing is simple and does not require any specialist tools just a flat head screwdriver socket wrench and 8mm allen key to hold the pedal by the axle. We recommend that the pedal is cleaned and greased every 30 hours of riding and the bearings are inspected for wear.
