In the Brooks tradition, our grips are made of natural leather, the same long-wearing leather used for our saddle tops. Brooks only buys the central part of the hide, the back of the cow, which is thicker and stronger. For our saddles we cut one leather top at a time, taking great care both in guaranteeing a homogeneous quality and in minimizing the residue. Nevertheless, a lot of leather remains unused, and it is this part which is now employed in the manufacturing of our grips.
Brooks Slender Leather Grips feature vegetable tanned leather tape, and are designed to offer an alternative performance option for the user, while maintaining the standard for sustainability set by the Plump Grips, allowing the user to replace worn parts if necessary. The design incorporates an aluminium shell around which the bar tape is wrapped in the manner of traditional handlebar tape. The leather is then held in place by aluminium and steel clamps which can be removed in the event that the tape requires replacement. The tape is made from the same vegetable tanned leather used for Brooks Saddles.
To enhance the comfort level further, the leather tape natural cork padding. This helps to soak up much of the vibrations from the road as you cruise through city streets or rough country lanes. Fully Serviceable Although the leather bar tape offers excellent durability, the grips are designed to be fully serviceable too for when the time comes to change the tape. This is done by simply removing the locking end caps which secure the tape in place.
