The Retainer Ring is designed to grip onto the chain which stops it from dismounting when riding over harsh and uneven terrain which theoretically means you can ditch your chain device for this simple and clean looking system. The Retainer Ring is designed to work with 9,10 and 11 speed chains and it provides an almost quiet drivetrain with less drag when paired with a derailleur which has a clutch built into it.
