The SLR 8.9 Disc brings the fantastic ride quality and aerodynamic performance of the SLR 9 Series bikes down to an even more affordable price point. Using the same geometry and frame profiles as the SLR 9 Series, but with our C7 carbon fibre, the SLR 8.9 Disc is a fast and comfortable all-rounder, with Shimano’s excellent 105 hydraulic groupset.At the heart of the bike is a light and efficient C7 carbon frame with tube profiles developed in CFD and the Wind Tunnel to keep aerodynamic drag to the minimum. This means going faster for the same effort, what’s not to like? We haven’t forgotten about comfort too, it’s an important part of enjoying the ride, and a comfortable rider is a faster one. Dropped seat stays and a slim-bladed carbon fork help absorb bumps and road buzz, but a tapered head tube and fork steerer keep handling sharp and precise.Shimano’s R7020 105 Hydraulic groupset delivers smooth and quiet gear shifting, with an excellent range of gears courtesy of the 50-34t compact 105 chainset and 11-30t cassette. This is enough range for super-steep climbs and fast descents alike. This is where the hydraulic disc brakes come into their own, with much greater braking power and control vs a rim braked bike. Tyres are also vitally important for control, and 28mm Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres with Graphene 2.0 compound offer great grip and puncture resistance while rolling quickly too.CONTACT POINTS:Working with Chris Boardman, data from hundreds of bike fits and insight from bike fit experts, we have made simple changes to the contact points of the SLR range. Using advanced pressure mapping and real-world testing we’ve shown that the Boardman SLR saddle will provide long-ride comfort for the majority of people. Bar width and crank length are also reduced vs previous bikes to make sure they are suited to the fit needs of real cyclists, not just based on old traditions.
